IL 4th Of July: Where Fireworks Are Happening, Where They're Not

Is your town still having a 4th of July fireworks show? Find out on Illinois Patch.

ILLINOIS — It's been a year for the record books — nothing is quite the same as it used to be thanks to the coronavirus pandemic — and the Fourth of July is shaping up to be no exception. In a year when birthday parties and graduations became car parades, and family dinners happened more often over Zoom than in person, Independence Day celebrations aren't quite what they were in years past.

This year, 4th of July falls on Saturday, but some celebrations were scheduled for July 3. And while we can still celebrate with backyard barbecues, some communities have canceled their fireworks shows and celebrations. Others — including Mokena, Yorkville, Bridgeview, Joliet, Naperville and Orland Park — are still planning to host fireworks, and Romeoville is planning three simultaneous fireworks displays so all residents can see the show show from the comfort of their own yards.

As of Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service was predicting a daytime high of 90 degrees on July 4 and a low chance of precipitation. This week will also be a hot one, with the heat index potentially exceeding 100 degrees.
