School In The Time Of Coronavirus: Take IL Patch's Survey
Whether your district is going in person or remote, the 2020-21 school year is a big adjustment for many Illinois parents and students.
ILLINOIS — In a time of uncertainty thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, one thing's for sure — 2020 is one for the record books. As teachers, parents and students prepared to head back to school, districts across Illinois were faced with agonizing decisions: Should classes be held in person or remotely? How to best handle the new required safety and sanitization practices? What about sports?
Statewide, districts are split about 50/50 when it comes to having classes in person vs. via e-learning. The state is fairly split by region, with most school districts in the Chicago area planning fully remote learning, while students in the rest of the state are returning to class in person.
Several districts in the Chicago area are also offering a hybrid, or blended schedule mixing in-person and remote learning. Multiple districts that previously planned to offer some type of in-person learning have changed course and gone completely remote.
