U.S. News 2020 High School Rankings: 5 In Illinois In Top 100

ILLINOIS — Attending high school in the age of the new coronavirus is an experience like no other in history, but U.S. News & World Report has kept up its rankings, finding five schools in Illinois among the top 100 in the nation.

“The Best High Schools rankings provide the most comprehensive, data-based information on nearly every public high school in the country,” Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News, said in a news release. “Families can use this information to see how their local schools compare on graduation rates and state assessments, as well as academic performance by students who are traditionally underserved — those who are black, Hispanic or from low-income households.”

Here are the schools in Illinois ranked by U.S. News in the top 100.

• No. 9 nationally, No. 1 statewide: Payton College Preparatory High School, Chicago
• No. 38 nationally, No. 2 statewide: Northside College Preparatory High School, Chicago
• No. 66 nationally, No. 3 statewide: Jones College Prep High School, Chicago
• No. 77 nationally, No. 4 statewide: Young Magnet High School, Chicago
• No. 81 nationally, No. 5 statewide: Lane Technical High School, Chicago

These schools did not rank in the top 100 nationally but were also among the top 20 in the state:

• No. 6: Adlai E Stevenson High School, Lincolnshire
• No. 7: Libertyville High School, Libertyville
• No. 8: John Hersey High School, Arlington Heights
• No. 9: Lindblom Math and Science Academy, Chicago
• No. 10: Brooks College Prep Academy High School, Chicago
• No. 11: Hinsdale Central High School, Hinsdale
• No. 12: Glenbrook North High School, Northbrook
• No. 13: New Trier Township High School, Winnetka
• No. 14: Deerfield High School, Deerfield
• No. 15: Vernon Hills High School, Vernon Hills
• No. 16: Neuqua Valley High School, Naperville
• No. 17: Glenbrook South High School, Glenview
• No. 18: Lake Forest High School, Lake Forest
• No. 19:William Fremd High School, Palatine
• No. 20: Proviso Math and Science Academy, Forest Park
