Unemployment: 15,175 Layoffs, Furloughs In IL In June
Hotels, casinos and other companies were among those laying off employees permanently or furloughing them.
ILLINOIS — Illinois employers announced more than 15,100 permanent layoffs and furloughs in June, according to the latest notices issued under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
Hardest hit were hospitality employers, including hotels and casinos. Hollywood Casino, with locations in Joliet and Aurora announced 256 permanent layoffs. Other companies hit include Hyatt Hotels, Courtyard hotels in Chicago and Des Plaines, the Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown Riverwalk and Marriott hotels.
Illinois' unemployment rate for June was 15.2 percent, falling 2 percentage points since May.

Here are some of the companies furloughing and laying off employees, according to WARN notices:
- Argosy Casino Alton, 108 permanent layoffs
- Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, 538 temporary furloughs, temporary layoffs, and/or temporary reductions in hours
- Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park Hotel, 285 temporary layoffs
- Hyatt Centric Chicago Magnificent Mile, 155 temporary layoffs
- Hyatt Corporation, Oak Brook, 112 temporary furloughs
- Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, 32 permanent layoffs, 371 temporary layoffs
- Hyatt Regency Chicago, 920 temporary layoffs, 89 permanent layoffs
- Levy Premium Foodservice Limited Partnership and Rank+ Rally, LLC, 76 permanent layoffs, 969 reduction in hours by 50 percent
- Marriott International, Inc., 571 temporary furloughs, temporary layoffs, and/or temporary reductions in hours
- Premier Staffing Company, Inc., 370 permanent layoffs
