Warmer Temps Thaw Out Illinois, 50s Possible Saturday

According to the weather service, milder daytime highs will continue the thaw, but colder nighttime temps will limit rapid melting.

ILLINOIS — Warmer temperatures continue to thaw out the Chicago area and are melting the deep snow after the snowiest three weeks since 1979. The National Weather Service in Chicago said in a tweet that the snow depth at its Romeoville office has fallen below a foot for the first time since Feb. 8.

The weather service said Tuesday that 2 inches of snow had melted since the same time Monday.

According to the weather service, milder daytime highs will continue the thaw of snow and ice, but colder nighttime temperatures will limit rapid melting.

Temperatures in the 40s are expected through the weekend, with the possibility of highs in the 50s on Saturday, according to the weather service. It will also be mostly dry, except for a chance of light snow Friday night, so the snow melt will continue, the weather service said.

Tuesday also saw the highest temperatures this year, according to the weather service.
