Who Got The Most Snow? Illinois Town-By-Town Totals
Roads were expected to be icy Wednesday, with freezing rain lingering early in the day.
ILLINOIS — Illinois' first significant snowfall of the winter hit the area Tuesday, turning to freezing rain by Wednesday and leaving roads slick for the morning commute. When all was said and done, most areas got about 3 to 3.5 inches of snow, with the highest snowfall total of 6.2 inches hitting the Rockford Airport.
The lowest snowfall total was seen in McHenry County, where Lake in the Hills got just 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the freezing rain and drizzle was expected to leave the area by noon Wednesday, but drivers were urged to give themselves extra time to travel, check road conditions before driving, slow down and increase following distance behind other vehicles.
Temperatures were expected to drop into the low 30s by late afternoon Wednesday, with winds of 15 to 30 mph.

New Year's Eve is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 31 degrees and winds of 5 to 10 mph.
The Chicago area could get more snow on New Year's Day, possibly mixed with freezing rain and sleet, and should see a high near 37 degrees.
More rain, possibly mixed with snow, is expected Friday night.
