ALGONQUIN, LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Coronavirus cases continue to drop across the country while the number of those who are fully vaccinated continues to rise, which means there is even more reason to celebrate this Independence Day. July 4 is almost here, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you.

We have all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Algonquin and Lake in the Hills so you can start planning now.

  • Saturday, June 26: Meadowdale Park/Shopping Center, Besinger and Maple Avenue, Carpentersville, fireworks start at 9 p.m. More information here.
  • Sunday, July 4: Lakeside Festival will be happening this year and will run from July 1 to July 4. On July 4, festival organizers work with the city of Crystal Lake to coordinate activities to make the Independence Day parade and fireworks display happen. This year's parade will step off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 4. The parade 1.8-mile route will begin at city hall, proceed down Dole Avenue and end at the Dole Mansion grounds. The Voices in Harmony and Crystal Lake Community Band in concert will run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake. Fireworks will start around dusk, park district officials said.
  • Saturday, July 10: Fox River Grove’s fireworks' event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at Picnic Grove Park on Birch Lane. There will be food, drinks and music prior to the fireworks show. Those hoping to stop out should do so before 9 p.m.; no entry will be allowed to the park after that.

This year's Cary Summer Celebration and fireworks have been cancelled. And traditionally, no fireworks are shot off during festivals in the villages of Algonquin and Lake in the Hills over the July 4th holiday.

But Lake in the Hills residents can stop out to Sunset Festival later in the summer to see some fireworks. The fest will run from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 at Sunset Park, 5200 Sunset Drive. So far, plans are in the works to have live music, a bags tournament, car show, craft fair, carnival and fireworks during the three-day event at Sunset Park, 5200 Miller Road.

The fireworks show is planned to start at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Algonquin's Founders Days will be back this year after taking a year hiatus amid COVID. The festival will be held from July 22 through July 25 at Ted Spella Park, but there will be no fireworks this year "due to budget constraints," Dan Barton, an Algonquin Founders Days organizers, told Patch.
