Algonquin Earns Budget Award

This is the 17th consecutive year the Village has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that the Village of Algonquin has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2020 - 2021 budget. This is the seventeenth consecutive year the Village has received this prestigious award.

The award reflects the commitment of the Village Board and staff to achieve the highest standards and best practices of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.

“Algonquin’s annual operating and capital budget is the single most important policy document the Village adopts” said Acting Village President Debby Sosine. “By receiving this award, our residents can be assured that the Village adheres to best practices in financial management, which allows us to continue to provide efficient, reliable, and cost-effective services to the community.”

Algonquin is one of 88 municipalities in Illinois to receive the award. Award recipients demonstrate improved quality of public sector budgeting and provide an excellent example of transparency for public finance and operations.

Algonquin’s Fiscal Year 2020 – 2021 budget represents a balanced $72 million financial plan, featuring a property tax levy lower than 2008 levels and $33.2 million in capital infrastructure investment. The budget document is available for viewing online.
