Algonquin Police Receive High Honor

Department receives accreditation status, a gold standard in law enforcement.

 

The Algonquin Police Department received Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation, considered the gold standard in law enforcement. Chief Russ Laine accepted a certificate of accreditation at this week's village board meeting.

Laine credited officers who worked on the accreditation process, calling it a team effort.

The department had to meet 182 standards the commission requires department meet covering topics like organization structure, operations and response to critical incidents.

ILEA’s process helps departments with professional development, establishing policies and making sure those policies are being met, officials said.

Algonquin has a reputation as one of the best villages in Illinois when it comes to professional development, new Village Manager Tim Schloneger said. “It has an impact on ways you don’t know,” he said, adding the professionalism is seen at all levels in the village government including the police department.
