Carpentersville Will Not Get Mass Vaccination Site
Kane County officials have decided to open just one site in Batavia.

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — Kane County officials have nixed a plan to open a COVID-19 mass vaccination site in a former Big Lots store in Carpentersville, the Daily Herald is reporting. Instead, the county will run its only mass vaccination operation in a former retail space — which was most recently occupied by Sam's Club — at 501 N. Randall Road in Batavia.
Initially, Kane County officials wanted to bring a second site to Carpentersville as a way to address a low number of Black and Hispanic residents receiving the shot, according to the article. But ultimately, it was operationally and financially more efficient to just open one site, Jarett Sanchez, a Kane County board member, told the Daily Herald.
"The Batavia site is definitely better than nothing," Sanchez said. "It's located not too far from Elgin and Aurora, which both have large Black and Hispanic populations. But for our residents on the north end, it's a bit far."
