The detached garage of a home in the 28700 block of Bloners Drive in Lake County caught on fire and exploded Friday morning.
Cary Fire Protection District responded to the home at 10:24 a.m. and found a fully-involved, detached garage.
“The fire was beginning to extend into a house that was located approximately 12 feet away,” Cary Fire Protection District said in a written release. “Siding from the house had already melted off with the house off gassing, which is a sign that it was close to igniting on fire.”

Although the fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes, the garage was a total loss and the house suffered cracked windows and melted siding.
The homeowner was the only person home at the time. He told firefighters he had put away the ride-on lawnmower and went inside to change clothes for work. As he was leaving, he saw smoke coming from the garage and saw that the mower was on fire. He called 911.
