Centegra Argues Against Advocate and Sherman Merger

The Illinois Health Facility and Services Review board heard Centegra Health System’s opposition to a merger between Advocate Health Care and Sherman Hospital, the Northwest Herald report.

Review board members held a hearing on the merger Monday in Elgin. The merger would have Advocate investing $200 million into Sherman, including $60 million for capital replacements, the newspaper reported.

Centegra has called the merger “financially irresponsible.”

Centegra is building a hospital in Huntley and faced opposition from both Sherman and Advocate during its hearings before the review board, which must grant hospitals permission for any new construction, expansion or mergers.

The merger is listed on the review board’s May 14 agenda.
