Summer 2021 Fun: What’s Happening Today In Algonquin, LITH?

A look at events and programs worth checking out in the next week in and around Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.

ALGONQUIN AND LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Summer is in full swing. And after a long year of restrictions and few offerings, this summer is looking much more promising.

And fun.

From outdoor story times and free concerts to farmers markets and fireworks, park districts, libraries and businesses have plenty in store for area residents wishing to get out.

We've included a roundup below of family-friendly activities planned over the next week in Algonquin, Lake in the Hills and nearby. June 8: Concerts in the Park at Main Beach, 300 Lakeshore Drive, Crystal Lake. Attendees can pack a dinner and bring their own beverages, including beer and wine. Small charcoal grills are allowed, but glass is not. The T-Mobile truck crew arrives at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday for contests, trivia and prizes. June 9: Yoga for all on the library patio at the Algonquin Public Library,2600 Harnish Drive. For more information and to register, visit the library.

June 9: Cruise Nights at ShadowView Brewing, 2400 Lake Shore Drive, Woodstock. Cruise nights have returned and will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday. All makes and models are welcome. More via ShadowView Brewing’s website.

June 9: Music Under the Trees, 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake, 6 to 9 p.m. No outside food is allowed, but pre-selected food boxes are available to buy for those who buy their tickets online. Wine, beer, cocktails, water and water are also available. Tickets can be purchased online for $20 and at the gate for $25. Check out the Dole website for the concert schedule, COVID guidelines and to purchase tickets.

June 10: Sensory Bin Playtime on the outdoor patio at the Algonquin Public Library Harnish Branch, 2600 Harnish Drive, Algonquin. Scoop, pour, sort, and get messy while creating your very own sensory bin at the library. Stay and play with your bin or take it home to explore. One bin per family. There will be sessions from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Register online.

June 10: Storytime at Towne Park, 100 Jefferson St., Algonquin, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Ages 0 to 6 years old with caregiver; registration is required.

June 11: Algonquin library take and make baby footprint and baby story times, 2600 Harnish Drive. Take and make kits for baby or toddler footprints to make a gift. Register online to be notified when your kit is available. Two separate baby story times will be held on the outdoor patio: One for 0 to 12 months with caregiver that will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m.; and another for 12 to 23 months from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Register online to attend.

June 11: Friday Night Water Ski Show, 4110 E. Lake Shore Drive, Wonder Lake, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on the beach or come by boat to check out the show that is available most Fridays in the summer. More information is available online.

June 11: Lunchapalooza: Miss Jamie's Farm at Algonquin's Historic Village Hall, 2 S. Main St., Algonquin. The free family event will be held in The Plaza in Old Town, which is next to the Historic Village Hall. Pack a lunch and stop out.

June 11 and June 12: Concerts on Fridays and Saturdays at Quarry Cable Park at Three Oaks Recreation, 5517 Northwest Highway, 7 to 10 p.m. Enjoy food, drink and live music. A schedule of concerts and more information is available online.

June 12: Free Yoga In The Park at the Sleepy Hollow Pool, 875 Winmoor Drive, Sleepy Hollow, 8 a.m. Those age 12 and older are welcome. More via the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Patch events calendar.

June 12: Crystal Lake Farmers Market, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The farmers market will be held every Saturday at Depot Park in downtown Crystal Lake. More via the downtown Crystal Lake website.

June 12: Woodstock Farmers Market, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The farmers market has several vendors set up surrounding the historic Woodstock Square as well as several throughout the park. More via the Woodstock Farmers Market website.

June 13: Pop-Up Farmers Market in downtown Algonquin, Main and Washington streets, Algonquin, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. More via Patch.

June 13: Woodstock PrideFest, 12 to 5 p.m. Held in the historic Woodstock Square Historic District, 121 W. Van Buren St., Woodstock, there will be a parade, music, entertainment, vendors, food and more. More via the Woodstock PrideFest Facebook page.

June 13: Hooked on Fishing at The Hollows, 3804 U.S. Highway 14, Cary, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The whole family can enjoy a morning of fishing, prizes and more. The event is free and no fishing license is required. You can borrow equipment; registration is required. More information is available online.

June 13: Open Air Farmers Market+ at The Dole, 401 Country Club Road, Crystal Lake, 10 a.m. 2 p.m. A new open air farmers market will be held every Sunday at The Dole. More via The Dole website.

June 13: Cary Grove Farmers Market in the Cary Metra lot, 100 W. Main St., Cary, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More via the Visit McHenry website.

June 14: Take and make kits for various age levels available through the Algonquin Library District. Visit the library’s website for more information and to register for your kit.

June 14: Outdoor Music and Movement, the outdoor patio at the Algonquin Public Library main branch, 2600 Harnish Drive, Algonquin, 11 to 11:30 a.m. A half-hour of singing and dancing. Masks are required, and so is registration since space is limited.

June 14 to 18: Safety Camp With LITH PD and Algonquin Fire Protection District. Open to youth ages 6-12; the event is free and held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 14 to 18. The police department and fire protection district have teamed up to lead their summer safety camp program with the help of special guest speakers, teen volunteers, and the assistance of Explorer Post #1096. This is a free, interactive four-hour, five-day camp. Campers tour the police station, fire station, and other fun locations during the week. Topics include: bicycle and street safety, outdoor and wildlife safety, stranger danger, calling 9-1-1, how to help others in case of an emergency, fire safety, school bus safety, good citizenry, and more. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.

June 15: Outdoor Family Storytime, on the outdoor patio at the Algonquin Public Library, 2600 Harnish Drive, Algonquin, 10 to 10:30 a.m. For ages 0 to 5 years old with a caregiver. There will be stories and songs; registration is required.
