D300 Donates School Buses For Firefighter Training

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District will study "the anatomy" of a school bus to help train for emergency situations.

ALGONQUIN, IL — The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received a "generous" donation of three school buses this past week from District 300 for training purposes, according to a fire protection district press release.

The donation will allow firefighters to conduct training that will help them practice patient removal, vehicle stabilization, and to understand "the anatomy of a standard school bus," according to a news release.

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration there were over 370,000 fatal motor vehicle traffic crashes, and of those, more than 1,200 were classified as school transportation-related. Only 8 percent of those victims were occupants of school transportation vehicles, but by understanding the features of a school bus, could help firefighters when they are called to the scene.
