District 158 Students Returning To Hybrid Learning Monday

Middle and high school students or their parents must complete a daily COVID-19 symptom screening.

ALONGQUIN, IL — For the first time since October, students in Huntley Community School District 158 will return to classrooms on Monday to participate in a hybrid learning model.

In a letter to students and parents, district superintendent Scott Rowe addressed the return, saying the school had implemented strategies and adjustments designed to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Before students return to school, parents are asked to complete a January 2021 self-certification form acknowledging that the student does not have symptoms of COVID-19 and that he or she will stay home when feeling sick.

The school has also designed a daily self-screening for symptoms of the virus that middle and high school students or their parents will need to complete daily.

Parents must ensure their child does not have symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms include a high fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, headache, body aches and more. The parent must then enter the student's identification number and certify the student is feeling well.

Parents of elementary students, meanwhile, are required to initial a paper form certifying the student does not have any symptoms of the virus.

"Our community is not immune from its risks, and neither are our schools. However, as we have throughout the year, we are following the guidance of our local health department’s experts in making this next step," Rowe said in the letter.

Students who have opted to continue learning remotely remain eligible for free breakfast and lunch sack meals, Rowe said. Meals can be picked up between 8 and 10 a.m. at Marlowe Middle School. Home delivery will no longer be offered after Jan. 25.

Parents hoping to take advantage of curbside meal pickup are asked to complete a survey.
