Get Rid Of Your Hazardous Waste In Lake In The Hills June 26

This recycling event is free and open to all Illinois residents. Agricultural, business and institutional waste will not be accepted.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Got any any hazardous waste at home that you want to easily get rid of? If you said "yes," you'll have that opportunity to do so thanks to an upcoming event made possible by the Lake in the Hills Sanitary District and the McHenry County Department of Health.

Illinois residents are invited to bring their hazardous items for disposal to the Huntley School District campus at 10910 Reed Rd. in Lake in the Hills from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 26.

Before arriving to the recycling event, residents should make sure all waste materials are clearly labeled and safely packaged for transport. Organizers even suggest carpooling or condensing waste from multiple families into one vehicle.

When dropping off your items, you'll be asked to remain in your vehicle while at the event; staff will unload them from your vehicle.

Adhesives
Aerosol Products
Antifreeze
Auto Fluids
Ballasts (PCB)
Batteries– power tools and household sizes
(No automotive/lead acid batteries)
Black top Sealer– oil based
Cleaning Products
Cooking oil
Corrosives
Drain Cleaners
Fluorescent bulbs (tubes and CFL’s)
Gasoline and oil/gas mixtures
HID lightbulbs (headlight bulbs)
Hobby and Photo Chemicals
Lawn Chemicals
Medications (no controlled substances or needles)
Mercury-containing devices (switches, thermostats,
thermometers)
Mercury
Oil-based Paints, Stains and Varnishes
(NO LATEX PAINT)
Paint Thinners
Pesticides, poisons, herbicides, insecticides
Pool Chemicals
Resins, Glues

Items that won't be accepted:

LATEX PAINT– Latex Paint is not hazardous and can
be safely dried and discarded as trash. See the

Biological and medical waste
Business, Institutional or commercial sector wastes
Controlled Substances-Pharmaceuticals
