Huntley Man Dies After Ultralight Crashes
The crash happened Saturday evening in an open field in Huntley.
HUNTLEY, IL — A 54-year-old Huntley man has died after his ultralight aircraft crashed Saturday in Huntley, authorities said.
The pilot, James McCulla Jr., was initially taken to Northwestern Hospital in Huntley after his ultralight aircraft went down in the area of Powers Road and Samantha Lane in Huntley. On Monday, police reported McCulla had died.
The crash happened at about 7 p.m. in an open field behind the Culver’s restaurant on Route 47 in Huntley.
Witnesses said the ultralight, which had a parachute and fan motor, appeared to run into issues shortly after taking off. The aircraft went into a slow spin before hitting the ground, according to the news release.

The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
