LITH Beach Closed Due to High Bacteria Levels

Beaches in Wonder Lake and Island Lake have also been closed.

Six beaches remain closed after the McHenry County Department of Health took samples Tuesday to check for high bacteria levels.

Those beaches include:

  • Highland Shores, 3500 W Lake Shore Drive, Wonder Lake
  • Indian Ridge 2 North,
  • Indian Trails, Lake in the Hills
  • Sunrise Ridge,3800 W Lake Shore Drive, Wonder Lake
  • Veterans Park, 332 W State Road, Island Lake
  • Wonder Center, 4100 E Lake Shore Drive, Wonder Lake

The health department on Monday re-sampled all of its 38 licensed beaches following heavy rains and closed nine of those beaches and placed five more on advisory.

The health department again took samples from the beaches on Tuesday and announced six would remain closed due to high bacteria levels.

The health department was expected to again take samples on Wednesday to determine if any of the beaches could re-open.
