Man Who Shot 2 Deputies Held on $1M Bail
Scott Peters, 52, faces attempted murder and other charges after allegedly shooting 2 McHenry County sheriff's deputies Thursday morning.

A judge ordered the man accused of shooting two McHenry County sheriff’s deputies held on $1 million bail Friday morning, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Scott Peters, 52, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm against a police officer, the Tribune reported. Peters faces a sentence of 30 to 60 years for each of the four counts if convicted, as well as a $25,000 fine.

The military veteran told the judge he couldn’t pay the $100,000 bond and that he hadn’t had a job for five years and was living on income from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the report stated. The next court date for Peters, who is being represented by a public defender, will be Oct. 21.
Peters is accused of shooting Deputies Dwight Maness and Khalia Satkiewicz with a rifle Thursday when they were doing a residential well-being check at a home in the 1300 block of N. East Shore Drive in Holiday Hills, the report stated. A spokesman with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office told the Tribune both deputies were in good condition Friday morning.

Maness, a seven-year veteran, was wounded in the stomach and leg and needed surgery, the report stated. Satkiewicz, a 12-year veteran, was shot in the leg, the report added.
After the shooting, Peters led about 250 law enforcement officials from around Holiday Hills area on a manhunt, the report stated. He was finally apprehended Thursday evening by a wooded area on Smith Road near Highway 176 in Crystal Lake, the report added.
