ALGONQUIN, IL — There is 3,000 square feet more space in the new Aldi in Algonquin that opened this past week and many more fresh options for those looking for produce, meat and convenient meal options, a spokeswoman for the grocer said Friday.

The bigger and better Aldi store replaces the old Aldi store at 425 S. Randall Road. The 9,452-square-foot store, located in the same parking lot as Panera, closed Wednesday after 19 years in town.

The next day the new store opened just down the road at 1100 S. Randall Road. The Aldi has 12,541-square-feet of retail space, which is about 3,000-square-feet larger than Algonquin's old Aldi, which allows for more refrigerators to store fresh, healthy and convenient meal options, according to a representative from Aldi.

"One of the main reasons we relocated our store was to provide Algonquin shoppers a bigger store to accommodate an expanded product selection," according to Aldi reps.

The new Aldi in Algonquin is a part of a nationwide expansion project that got underway in 2017 and includes renovations 1,to300 stores in addition to the opening of hundreds of new stores. In the Chicago area, nearly 100 stores have been remodeled with improvements planned for 20 more stores this year. In addition, Bolingbrook will get a new store later this year, Brunsen said.

“The Algonquin community has remained loyal ALDI customers for 19 years, and we can’t wait to show them the same ALDI model they know and love, but with a new store and even more space for their favorite products," said Heather Moore, Dwight division vice president for ALDI, in a statement prior to the store's opening.

The new store is set up to make shopping more efficient for customers, officials with the grocer said, and has open ceilings, natural lighting and additional storage for more fresh produce, dairy and meat.

In addition, the new Algonquin store, like Aldi stores across the U.S., has stepped up sanitization measures in place, including disinfectant wipes for cart cleaning as well as hand sanitizing stations at the entrances to the store.

"We also reserve time for vulnerable shoppers on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and for everyone’s safety, all customers and employees are required to wear a face covering while in our stores," according to a representative of Aldi.

The new Algonquin Aldi will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Curbside pickup will be available starting on Jan. 21 at the new Algonquin store. Delivery options are also available for many Aldi stores. The Aldi website has more information on these options.
