Newspaper Error Lands on Letterman, Puts Suburban Mayor in Spotlight

David Letterman's regular segment featured Arlington Heights Mayor Arlene Mulder this past week.

Arlington Heights Mayor Arlene Mulder is popular in the village, but now she’s a celebrity after being featured on the Late Show with David Letterman.

Her entrée onto the show came Monday during David Letterman’s regular segment, “Small Town News.” The segment features funny errors from newspapers across the country.

Letterman showed a photo of Mulder at the April 15 village board meeting — her last after 20 years as mayor — that appeared in the Daily Herald.

The cutline under the photos stated Mulder has been leading the village for 20 decades. Mulder looks good considering she has been mayor for 200 years, Letterman joked.

Tuesday, friends were emailing Mulder about the segment.
