The Village of Algonquin, IL (Pop. 30,046) is seeking applicants for the position of Customer Service/Office Assistant for the General Services Administration Department.

GENERAL INFORMATION
This is a job-share position with an average schedule between 20 and 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with hours generally between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Applicants should have a flexible schedule as work days/hours may vary depending on staff schedules. This position also qualifies for participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension plan and holiday pay according to the Personnel Policy Manual.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the guidance and direction of the Community Development Director; however, this position may be assigned to other Departments and/or Divisions, if needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing courteous and responsive customer service to Village residents and the general public in a high-visibility role.
- Provides office support services to Community Development staff and other departments of the Village.
- Effectively responds to inquiries and concerns pertaining to permits, inspections, zoning, and property inquiries.
- Processes and issues over-the-counter permits.
- Answers phone calls and responds to questions and requests for service.
- Responsible for verifying and recording related cashiering transactions including collecting fees and processing building, zoning, and related permits, and processing daily cash receipts.
JOB REQUIREMENTSEducation/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent, two years of office-related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
Skills: Strong ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner; conscientious with ability to focus on attention to detail; excellent organizational and problem solving skills; proven cash-handling experience; ability to work well in a team-based environment to service customers; a good knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and operations; ability to understand and follow written and oral directions; ability to multi-task and adaptable/flexible to changing priorities; working knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience maintaining confidential information; good knowledge of basic mathematics; working knowledge of office equipment.
