Snow, Rain And Flooding In McHenry County, Area Forecast: NWS

Several Chicago-area counties are under flood warnings, advisories and a Hazardous Weather Outlook, NWS reports.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service for several Illinois counties including McHenry, Lake, Kane, Cook, Will and more details limited risks of snow and fog Monday, among other weather alerts. According to NWS, rain is expected to transition to a rain/snow mix, and then snow for a brief period, early Tuesday morning (overnight) from (and northwest of) Dixon to Woodstock, according to NWS.

NWS listed a limited snow risk in the forecast for Thursday. Light snow accumulations under one inch are possible, mainly on grassy surfaces, NWS said.

Flooding will continue on several area rivers this week through Sunday, according to NWS.

NWS also issued a Flood Warning for the Fox River near New Munster, affecting Lake County and parts of Wisconsin in Kenosha County. According to NWS, the river rose to 11.2 feet at 10 a.m. Monday, .2 over flood stage. The river will continue rising to near 11.4 feet by early Tuesday afternoon, NWS reported.

The river will fall below flood stage early Thursday afternoon, according to NWS.

At 12.1 feet, water reaches up to the first floor levels of some area homes.

A Flood Advisory continues until Thursday afternoon for the Des Plaines River near Russell, or from the Illinois/Wisconsin state line — downstream to US-41 in Gurnee, NWS added.

The river's stage was 6.4 feet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, just under the "action stage" at 6.5 feet. The forecast notes the river is expected to rise to around 6.8 feet by Tuesday morning, .2 under the 7-foot flood stage, during which water can flow into surrounding farm and marshland near the river, according to NWS.

NWS and local authorities remind motorists to turn around and find an alternate route if you encounter a flooded roadway.
