Which Illinois counties are making the most out of their property taxes?

SmartAsset conducted a study of Illinois counties to see which are getting the most “bang for their buck” out of their taxes that fund local governments like schools and towns.

They looked at factors like crime rates and good schools in the area by measuring reports of violent and property crime and math and reading test scores in nearby schools, and then compared those numbers to the property tax rates.

If you are a homeowner, you know this list has to come with a big caveat. Property taxes and home values can vary widely throughout a county, especially in those with large metropolitan areas like Cook County. The school district in which you live will be the greatest factor in the amount of property tax you pay.

Despite these asterisks, the list and map below offer a good thumbnail sketch of what it costs to live in various parts of a very diverse state.
