Snow Will Not Deter Trick-or-Treating in Algonquin, LITH
Village officials say recommended trick-or-treating hours will stay the same even if it is a snowy Halloween.

ALGONQUIN-LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — Trick or treat hours in Algonquin and Lake in the Hills will stay the same today even with a winter storm in the forecast. Meanwhile, some suburbs, including Vernon Hills, have decided to postpone trick-or-treating in town until because of the low temps and the wintry weather.
"This decision was not made lightly, because we understand some residents may be disappointed or inconvenienced,"said Vernon Hills Chief of Police Patrick Kreis in a news release Wednesday. "With an increased amount of children out in neighborhoods trick-or-treating during the evening rush hour, a mix of wintry weather could unnecessarily put those looking to enjoy the holiday in harm'sway. The safety of everyone involved is our highest priority."
In Algonquin, trick or treating will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31. Residents are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear bright and reflective clothing and have children carry flashlights or glow sticks as part of their costume.
