Work Starts On Amazon Center In Huntley
The receiving center and officer are expected to bring more than 1,000 full-time jobs to the area.

HUNTLEY, IL — Construction is underway on a new Amazon warehouse and offices, which is expected to bring more than 1,000 full-time jobs to the area. The 630,000-square-foot center is being built on 152 acres off of Freeman Road, north of Interstate 90 and east of Route 47 and is slated to open i the third quarter of 2022.
The property is located on land formerly referred to as Stade Farm and is across from the former outlet center in Huntley. Amazon is expected to invest $100 million into the Huntley center.

"A project of this magnitude will be a catalyst for future growth and will assist in the Village’s ongoing efforts to attract and promote new business development," said Huntley Mayor Charles Sass.
Employees at the Amazon Receive Center will support customer fulfillment by receiving large orders of inventory and redistributing products to fulfillment centers across the company’s operations network.

In recent months, village officials worked with Venture One Acquisitions on an annexation and development plan to move the project forward. Last month, the village board approved a zoning request and a request to annex the 261-acre property, according to a news release from the village.
Amazon has signed a lease with Venture One to open the center on the property. The remaining land is expected to be developed at a later date, village officials said.
Village manager Dave Johnson say there's been a "significant uptick in interest from developers," since the Amazon announcement, according to the Daily Herald.
"There's hundreds of acres north and south of the interstate that are still undeveloped," he said.
Meanwhile, construction is expected to start this summer on a business park at the site of the former outlet all, which was razed in April 2018, according to the Daily Herald. A 717,400-square-foot industrial building is proposed at the site.
