Aurora Named Best Place To 'Live The American Dream'

AURORA, IL -- A city in Chicago's suburbs was recently ranked number one on a roundup of the best places in the country to "live the American dream." Aurora took the top spot for 2019's SmartAsset study, beating out Abilene, Texas, Des Moines, Iowa, and dozens of other cities.

The SmartAsset study evaluated the largest 250 cities in the U.S. based on such categories as diversity, economic mobility, home ownership rates and unemployment rates. Officials from SmartAsset said Aurora's diversity helped set the city apart.

"[Aurora] has the highest diversity score and ranks strong for economic mobility and other deciding factors," SmartAsset said. They added that they believe living the "American Dream" involves living a full and fulfilling life, surrounded by a community of people doing the same," along with "living someplace where people from all walks of life can live comfortably."

In a statement, Mayor Richard Irvin said, "The City of Lights is also the city of dreams and diversity. It’s great to see others throughout the country are also realizing there’s something amazing happening here.”
