Barrington Company Helps Build New Counseling Center

Samaritan Counseling Center and Dawson Builders partnered to remodel a the new counseling building in Barrington, at 800 Hart Road. Dawson donated their building services and expertise to help remodel the main office of the center. 

The Samaritan Counseling Center recently moved from another space in the Hart Road office buildings to the current location at 1000 Hart Road. Due to their rapid growth, they have added 10 seasoned therapists to their team and needed more therapy rooms. They envisioned a homey, comfortable waiting area and therapy rooms for their clients.

When a few of the Samaritan Board members mentioned the construction project to John Dawson, he thought, “What better way to give back to our local community than by helping Samaritan, a growing organization right in our back yard.” The majority of Dawson Builders business is here in Barrington and Deer Park. The project was completed last month and entailed moving walls and doors to create 5 new offices, rebuilding the metal framed walls, drywall installation, electrical work, repairing drop ceilings, installing baseboards, carpet repairs and painting.  Reverend Jeanne Hanson, Executive Director and a founding board member of the Samaritan Counseling Center was please with the construction project stating, “John Dawson of Dawson Builders did an outstanding job tailoring the space that we needed for all of our therapists. It is welcoming, attractive and extremely comfortable--perfect for what we need.”

As a resident of Barrington and as board member on the public affairs committee for the Barrington Chamber of Commerce, John Dawson is committed to “giving back” in our local community. John has set a goal to give back several weeks a year to helping others.  The request to help Samaritan was an easy yes.  Dawson Builders could help them with all aspects of their project from demo to reconstruction.

Through the Barrington Presbyterian Church and their great volunteer organization he also volunteers at least one week a year doing construction services projects to help natural disaster victims.  Last year he went to Joplin to assist the community with reconstruction after the major Tornado and in previous years made several trips to Cedar Rapids IA to remediate flood damage, as well as doing major rehab work in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina.

The Samaritan Counseling Center of the Northwest Suburbs offers excellence in professional counseling, consulting and education by embracing faith, hope and wholeness. The professional counselors help individuals, couples and families achieve emotional, mental and spiritual well-being through psychotherapy, behavior modification, mediation and educational programs. They help with various issues from clinical depression to marital struggles to eating disorders.

Much of their expansion is due to the recent closing of the Family Services and Mental Health Center for McHenry County. The Samaritan Counseling Center hired 6 of their therapists as well as their Clinical Director, Scott Campbell. Samaritan also opened another office in Algonquin which houses the Advantage Employee Assistance Program that offers professional assessment and counseling services to 35 companies. Samaritan partners with local churches to provide educational seminars and workshops. Samaritan has expanded their services and offices to cover the community needs from Barrington to Woodstock.

Some upcoming events for the Samaritan Counseling center include: the Human Race in McHenry on April 21 and the “Sing for Samaritan Karaoke Night” on Friday, May 10. Take a look at http://sccnw.org/.
