Charges Filed After Barrington Cop Hit By Car

A 29-year-old man was charged Monday night on accusations his vehicle struck a Barrington officer making a traffic stop.

BARRINGTON, IL - A Chicago man faces several charges after a Monday night incident in which police say he struck a Barrington police officer with his vehicle. Atlas A. Davis, 29, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, driving on a suspended license and multiple traffic citations, according to Barrington police.

Police said a motorist called 911 at 7:38 p.m. and told them he thought he was being followed by another vehicle. The caller was told to drive to the Barrington police station, where a traffic stop was made.

It is then alleged that Davis accelerated his vehicle and struck one of the officers making the stop.

Neighboring police departments helped Barrington police track down and arrest Davis.

The injured officer was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released early Tuesday morning.

“As a police department, we feel very fortunate that our police officer was not seriously injured," Barrington Police Chief David Dorn said. “We are also very thankful to have the assistance of multiple police agencies in finding the offender and bringing this case to a successful conclusion with the appropriate charges filed.”
