Flint Creek Watershed Partnership Coordinator Steps Down

Patsy Mortimer retired from the position, effective June 1.

On June 1, 2013 there was a changing of the guard at the Flint Creek Watershed Partnership. Patsy Mortimer who has shepherded the Flint Creek restoration project through its infancy has retired from her position as Flint Creek Coordinator. Taking over for Mortimer is Dr. Kurt O. Thomsen who has been assisting the Barrington area Council of Governments with their Water Resource Initiative by defining the hydrogeology of a 600 square mile area around Barrington.

The Flint Creek watershed is a sub-watershed to the Fox River and encompasses 36.5 square miles that includes eight municipalities and four townships in Cook and Lake Counties and a small part of McHenry County. During her eight-year tenure, Ms. Mortimer managed the development of a watershed plan and implemented green infrastructure technologies. In accomplishing this Ms. Mortimer, has been a planner, organizer, innovator, motivator and implementer. 

Dr. Thomsen is an environmental consultant with over 30 years experience conducting and managing water resource related projects. He holds a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology. To assist in the management of the areas groundwater resources, Dr. Thomsen has designed a proposed groundwater and surface water monitoring program to help manage the water resources of the area.
