“Michael brings so many captivating perspectives about global events, with an emphasis on the people in each locale,” said Jack Schaefer, President of BADC. “We’re looking forward to the insights and learnings he’ll share with us, from the unique vantage points he’s experienced,” he added.
The BADC Annual Dinner Meeting brings together volunteers of local organizations, elected officials, and community leaders in a tribute to community service, and to honor the award recipient.
Last year, BADC presented its 2012 Citizen of the Year Award to Carol Nelson, who has played integral roles in many not-for-profit initiatives in the Barrington area, including as co-chair of the fundraising campaigns for Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Illinois – now JourneyCare.
In the prior year, Bob Lee -- whose A Ride for Three Reasons fundraising campaigns have helped fund research and awareness programs for the American Cancer Society, The Les Turner ALS Foundation, and the National Hospice Foundation – was named Citizen of the Year. In 2010, Richard and Roxy Pepper were recognized for their extensive volunteer and underwriting support for hospice care in our community. The 2009 Citizen of the Year Award was conveyed to local volunteer and environmentalist Tom Vanderpoel, and in 2008 the organization honored local volunteer and philanthropist Kim Duchossois.
This year’s event features a Showcase of Community Organizations, with the leaders of nearly two dozen local organizations displaying information about their groups and how to become involved.
Those interested in attending should RSVP by Friday, May 3, 2013, by Emailing BADC at info@The-BADC.org, or by Calling BADC at 847-382-HELP (4357), with Attendee Names, Phone Number, and Email Address, and then sending a check for $60.00 per person, made payable to BADC, to: BADC Annual Dinner, P.O. Box 72, Barrington, IL 60011 Your check completes your reservation.
BADC annually searches the ranks of community volunteers in the area to find an outstanding but little recognized individual or organization. BADC looks for a worthy recipient for its annual community service award, which is given to a community leader who consistently has been involved in volunteer work and has quietly sought to meet the needs of the Barrington-area communities.
A BADC committee selects the winner from nominees representing -- but not limited to -- such diverse fields as health care, conservation, preservation, education, youth work, public service, business and transportation.
