While the sale provides great deals for shoppers on items like clothing, designer purses and home décor, owner Jenny Welsh has made giving to charities a part of the sale.

One of Growing Cents of Style’s partner charities is WINGS, a local women’s and children’s shelter. Welch invites WINGS to each half off Sunday to shop for families it serves. She gives WINGS $1,000 to spend and donors match the amount. WINGS is able to purchase hundreds of items for families.

Barrington Giving Day

Barrington Giving Day provides gifts and clothing to area families. This year, Growing Cents of Style held a preview of the sale and proceeds will benefit Giving Day.

Hope 4 Bridget

The charity was formed in honor of a local girl who has Batten’s disease. Welsh accepts donations of clothing, toys, baby equipment, etc. and 100 percent of the money from these sales go back to Bridget.  All of her items are marked with pink tags so people know when they are shopping that they are purchasing something that will go to support Bridget.  Over the past five years, more than $12,000 has been donated to Hope 4 Bridget, plus driving awareness of the foundation and Batten’s disease.

Wishes for Scarlett

Scarlett is the daughter of a Grove School teacher, who taught Welsh’s daughter. Items are marked with a lavender tag and 100 percent of the sales go to Scarlett’s medical trust. Welsh’s daughters, Julia and Hannah, also run a book sale during the consignment sale and have raised $3,000 for Scarlett. The girls are collecting books for the spring sale.
