Lake in the Hills Structure Fire Injures 2, Causes $40K Damage

Area fire crews responded to a structure fire at 1:33 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13 at 305 Chippewa Trail in Lake in the Hills.

There were two civilian injuries. Both were transported to local hospitals. The Northwest Herald is reporting two cats and a dog died in the fire.

Damage is estimated to be more than $40,000, according to a fire department press release.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to the fire after dispatch was notified by the resident who discovered fire coming from a bedroom of his home. 

While en-route, fire units were notified all residents were out of the house. 

Upon arrival at 1:38 a.m., fire crews found a raised ranch style home with fire showing from the lower level of the home. Fire crews initiated an exterior attack to extinguish the fire. Crews were able to gain entry into the home and complete the extinguishment of the fire.

Once extinguished, the crews checked for extension into the attic. The house was vented to let accumulating smoke out of the home. Fire crews remained on the scene until after 3 a.m. investigating the fire and securing the home.

The fire is still under investigation at this time.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from Carpentersville, Crystal Lake, Huntley, Fox River Grove and the Barrington Countryside Fire Departments.
