Man Breaks Free From Handcuffs, Attempts Escape: Lake Co. Sheriff
A Lake County Sheriff's office deputy had to use a taser on the unincorporated Barrington man after he freed himself from handcuffs.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — A man from unincorporated Barrington is facing escape, DUI (alcohol) and other charges after the Lake County Sheriff's office said he freed himself from handcuffs Tuesday before a Taser was used in an effort to arrest him once again. According to a news release from the sheriff's office, deputies arrested 27-year-old Shane B. Zillman, from the 28500 block of Chamberlain Drive, at 5:40 p.m. on accusations he was driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while his license was suspended. Zillman was arrested at a park on Shady Lane in unincorporated Barrington, the sheriff's office added.
Upon arrival at the Lake County Jail, the deputy opened the car door to remove Zillman from the back seat, and Zillman ran past the deputy southbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Waukegan, according to the news release. Zillman freed one of his hands from the handcuffs, and closer inspection showed he was able to bend the handcuffs while his arms were held behind his back, which allowed him to free himself.
When Zillman refused to stop, the deputy used his Taser, causing Zillman to fall and in turn being taken back into custody, the sheriff's office said.
