Medieval Times Competing in Annual Landowners Cup Polo Match

The Medieval Times Polo Team will be showing its skills at the Barrington Hills polo match.

Medieval Times, the famous dinner-and-jousting restaurant in Schaumburg, will compete in the LeCompte Kalaway Landowners Cup Polo Match, September 14, in Barrington Hills.

"This will be the first time in history for a Medieval Times Polo Team,” Medieval Times Marketing Director Sandy Martinez said. "We also plan to stage a jousting exhibition on the polo field.”

Polo is the world’s oldest team sport, Martinez said. “History is a vital component of what we offer, and this will be an historic event,” she said.

The LeCompte Kalaway Landowners Cup is the largest polo event in metropolitan Chicago. In addition to the jousting and two fast-paced polo matches, the event will feature hay rides around the field, a demonstration of classical dressage, a Fox River Valley Pony Club exhibition and a parade of foxhounds by the Fox River Valley Hunt.

Event co-chair Linda Adair said that other attractions include the Barrington Children’s Choir performing the National Anthem and a mounted color guard featuring war veterans from Bravehearts.

Cook County Board President Toni Presckwinkle will be on hand to throw in the first ball to start the matches, Adair said.

The LeCompte Kalaway Landowners Cup is hosted by The Riding Club of Barrington Hills and the Barrington Hills Polo Club to honor and thank the landowners in Barrington Hills who permit riding trails across their private property as part of a nearly 200 mile trail network that links the entire village.

“This is the most popular event of the year in the Barrington area, bringing together horse people and non-horse people to enjoy the equestrian nature of our community,” said Catherine Keady, co-chair of the event.

The LeCompte Kalaway Landowners Cup will take place at the Oakwood Farm Polo Field on Bateman Road, between Route 62 and Lake Cook Road.
