New Charges Filed Against Man Accused of Shooting Sheriff's Deputies
Scott Peters now faces 6 counts of attempted first degree murder against a peace officer.

Prosecutors filed new charges Monday against the man accused of shooting two McHenry County sheriff’s deputies with a rifle and asked that his bond be increased or revoked, according to a Northwest Herald report.

Scott Peters, 52, now faces six counts of attempted first degree murder against a peace officer and additional counts of aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm after he allegedly opened fire last week on two deputies who were responding to a domestic disturbance call at Peters’ Holiday Hills home, the report stated. On Friday, a judge ordered him held on a $1 million bond.

The new charges carry with them a prison term of 165 years to life if convicted, the report added.

Court documents filed by prosecutors Monday also revealed more details about Peters and the incident, according to the Northwest Herald report:
Peters has a history of being anti-government and anti-police.
He fired 14 rounds at the deputies as they tried to take cover and pursued them while shooting.

Deputy Dwight Maness remains in the hospital and probably will need a second surgery after being shot in the back and leg, the report stated. Deputy Kahlia Satkiewicz, who was shot in the leg, was released from the hospital and is recovering at home, the report added.
