Prime Barrington Metra Station Parking Could Be Yours For $1,200

A new annual permit will allow commuters to buy a guaranteed, reserved parking spot near the train depot in either the North or South lots.

BARRINGTON, IL — The Village of Barrington recently announced a new annual Premium Commuter Parking Permit for its Metra commuters, and has purchased a parking lot from the First Church of Christ Scientist, adjacent to Barrington's North Commuter lot. According to a release from the Village, the new $1,200 annual permit will allow commuters to purchase a guaranteed, reserved parking spot near the train depot in either the North or South Commuter parking lots for the entire year.

The Village said the spots were purchased due to increased demand for commuter parking, and those who buy the premium permits will have access to their reserved spot until 9:30 a.m. each day during regular commuter hours, beginning Oct. 1. After 9:30 a.m., their spot will be opened for the day to members of the public, the Village added.

All Premium Commuter Parking Permit applications must be submitted with a 10 percent deposit ($120) no later than June 28. The balance of the payment will be charged in August, according to the Village.

In addition, the Village is also offering Metra commuters a quarterly permit for a first-come, first-serve space. Those will be $200, or $800 a year, and also go into effect on Oct. 1. While the Village said paying each quarter doesn't save you a specific spot, it does provide a discount and the added convenience of not having to pay each day at the far boxes. It also grants access to either the North or South Commuter lot on a first-come, first-served basis, the Village said.

Oct. 1 is also when the daily parking fee will increase by 50 cents to $3.50. According to the Village, the increase will be used towards paying for the purchase of the additional 67 spaces in the new lot, and ongoing maintenance of the parking lot.
