The outside of 220 South Cook St. is about to get a mini makeover.
Barrington trustees recently approved a $1,495 grant to property owner Michael Ward to add shed-style awnings on the property. The awnings will help enhance the Cook Street image, village staff said.
The total cost is $2,990 to design and install the awnings on the east façade of the building.
Barrington has a TIF District Redevelopment plan, which offers the Façade Improvement grant. Under the plan, Façade Improvement Grants up to $10,000 in matching funds are available for eligible business for exterior building improvements that enhance the visual appearance and character of the buildings in the village center.
A second business, Tip Top Tap, 104 N. Cook Street, was approved for a Business Assistant Grant to add an ADA compliant ramp, officials said.
The tavern received a grant for $3,995.
The Business Assistance Grant offers up to $25,000 in matching funds for eligible businesses for interior and exterior building improvements that preserve and enhance the visual appearance and character of the buildings.
Tip Top Tap submitted a contractor’s quote of $7,992 to complete the ramp but received a smaller grant amount because some work was done before the complete grant application was submitted, according to the village.
