Anti-Human Trafficking Group Raises Awareness
Kane County law enforcement & child trafficking experts encourage kids to attend.

GENEVA, IL — Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry, second to drug trafficking, according to a local group that is committed to stopping it. Children everywhere are being targeted on the internet and social media. To spread public awareness, law enforcement is teaming up with trafficking experts to host an awareness event Jan. 17 in Geneva.
Community leaders will share their experiences dealing with local human trafficking, according to a flyer for the event. Attendees will learn to recognize online predators and be better able to protect youth. The event is free and open to anyone. Children in middle school and up are encouraged to attend.
The event is sponsored by Making Waves, a Geneva-based Christian nonprofit that is committed to the abolition of human trafficking and child sex exploitation, according to its Facebook page. The event is Thursday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at The Well, across from the Kane County Cougars Stadium, 33W835 Cherry Lane in Geneva.
