Area Rhythmic Gymnast Wins 3 Gold Medals at Special Olympics

Geneva's Michelle Thompson also has captured two bronze medals at this week's event in Los Angeles.

Geneva rhythmic gymnast Michelle Thompson earned five medals at the 2015 Special Olympics World Games this week in Los Angeles, according to a Daily Herald report.

Thompson won gold medals in the rhythmic ball, rope and all-round gymnastics competitions, and she took home bronze medals in the rhythmic clubs and ribbon competitions, the report stated. The events were held Sunday and Monday.

Thompson, 30, has been part of the state’s Special Olympics for more than 20 years and participated in soccer,, tennis and volleyball. Earlier this summer, she won three gold medals and two silver medals in rhythmic gymnastics at the Illinois Special Olympics.
