Batavia Bulldogs Win IHSA Class 7A Football Championship

The Batavia High School football team won its second state title in school history with an overtime win over Lake Zurich.

DE KALB, IL - The Batavia High School Bulldogs won their second state championship and first since 2013 after outlasting Lake Zurich High School in the IHSA Class 7A State Football Championship Game on Saturday. Batavia won 21-14 on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Riley Cooper to Tommy Stuttle in overtime of the championship tilt at Huskie Stadium in De Kalb.

Cooper completed 28 of 42 passes for 295 yards and had three touchdowns for the Bulldogs. Eric Peterson caught 10 of Cooper's passes for 154 yards and had two touchdowns. Jeremiah Evers led Batavia on the ground with 39 rushing yards.

The two Cooper to Peterson touchdown connections have the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, but Lake Zurich battled back to tie it at 14 before the end of the third on a pair of touchdown passes from Evan Lewsndowski to Matthijs Enters.

A scoreless fourth preceded Stuttle's game-winning grab in overtime.

Batavia also won the 6A state title in 2013.
