Longtime Batavia businessman Joe Marconi, 88, died on Thursday, Dec. 4. He owned several downtown Batavia properties. He was an advocate for better streets, wider sidewalks and other amenities to improve and beautify downtown Batavia.

“I would give him a lot of the credit for spreading around his energy and enthusiasm for taking on a new concept for what Batavia could be,” Mayor Jeff Schielke told the Daily Herald.

He was a clothing salesman and bought several buildings in Batavia. He moved to town in the 1980s with his wife, Addie. He retired 15 years ago.
