BATAVIA, IL — Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke is projected to win re-election and continue his tenure as one of the country's longest-serving mayors after running unopposed in the 2021 Consolidated Election. Schielke was first elected to the office in 1981.

Kate Garrett is also projected to win her unopposed race for the Batavia City Clerk's office. No one ran to be Batavia city treasurer.

Incumbent 6th Ward Ald. Nicholas Cerone looks set to win re-election, after winning 72 percent of the vote in his race against challenger Shaunak Dave, according to unofficial results from the Kane County Clerk's Office.

Sarah Vogelsinger leads Robin Barraza by 85 votes to 63 votes in the race to represent the city's 7th Ward, unofficial results show.

Tuesday's election results are unofficial until certified by the county on April 27. Provisional Ballots cast on Election Day and all late Vote By Mail Ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted at Provisional Count on April 20.

Five other candidates faced no opposition in their races for the Batavia City Council.

Jennifer Baerren is projected to retain her seat in the 1st Ward, while Tony Malay and Mark Uher are projected to win re-election in the 4th Ward and 5th Ward, respectively.

Leah Leman, George Ajazi and Christopher Solfa are also expected to join the Batavia City Council after running unopposed. Solfa will fill an unexpired council term in the city's 1st Ward.

BATAVIA TOWNSHIP OFFICES

Batavia Township's administration is expected to remain the same after eight incumbents ran unopposed races to keep their seats.

Leigh Tracy is projected to continue as the township's supervisor, with Penelope Tracy as clerk, Tammy Kavanaugh as assessor and Christopher Long as highway commissioner.

Incumbent Batavia Township Trustees Walter Donat, Tom Sharp, Troy Tousana and John West are all projected to win re-election.

BATAVIA DISTRICT 101 BOARD OF EDUCATION

Four candidates sought four seats on the Batavia District 101 school board, meaning all are projected to win.

Incumbents Craig Meadows and Susan Locke were seeking re-election, while Aaron Kilburg and Ronald "RJ" Mathis were seeking their first terms on the board.

PARK AND LIBRARY DISTRICTS

There were two uncontested races for seats on the Batavia Park District Board of Commissioners during the 2021 Consolidated Election.

John Tilmon is projected to win re-election, and Molly Connolly is projected to win her race to fill an unexpired term on the board.

Marianne Fasano, Jennifer Culotta, Christy Ford and Kathryn Hubbard are projected to win seats on the Batavia Board of Library Trustees.

REGIONAL RACES

Incumbents Rebecca Oliver and Patrick Kelsey are projected to win re-election to the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees. Both held significant leads over challengers Giselle Gonzalez and Sandra Gonzalez with all 222 precincts reporting totals.

Winfried Cordell Cooper Jr. is projected to win a six-year term on the Kane County Regional Board of School Trustees. He was the only candidate for three seats on the board.
