Batavia Closes Billing Office After Employee Catches Coronavirus

BATAVIA, IL — Batavia residents will be unable to pay their utility bills in person until at least Nov. 6 after an employee in the billing office at City Hall tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle.

City officials closed the second-floor office after learning Oct. 22 about the positive test result from one of three employees in the office, the report states.

Batavia Restaurants Warned For Indoor Service Amid Restrictions

City Administrator Laura Newman said Batavia residents will not face late fees or service shutoffs if they do not pay their bills while the office is closed, the Chronicle reports.

Payments can be dropped off at several locations: 433 E. Wilson St., inside the police department entrance in City Hall, and in a drop box in the city park parking lot, the report states.

Newman said the employee who tested positive was “recovering well,” the Chronicle reports.
