BATAVIA, IL — Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke has enacted a curfew for the city, which will run from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. Schielke signed an executive order Tuesday night, after protests and looting in Aurora, Naperville and other cities.

The executive order states that a peaceful protest planned to start at noon Wednesday outside Batavia City Hall “has the potential to attract hundreds of protesters and may attract … people with the intention of rioting and causing damage as they have in other local communities over the last several days.”
