Batavia Man Charged After Standoff With Police Thursday

Police said they were called to the 1200 block of North Washington Avenue after a neighbor saw a man carry a screaming woman inside a home.

BATAVIA, IL — A Batavia man is facing several felony charges after police alleged he barricaded himself inside his home Thursday morning when they responded to reports of a domestic dispute.

Rogelio Ybarra, 34, of the 1200 block of North Washington Avenue, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint and domestic battery causing bodily harm, according to Batavia police.

Just after 7:15 a.m. Thursday, a caller reported seeing a man carrying a screaming woman into a home in the 1200 block of North Washington Avenue after the woman tried to run away from him, police said.

The woman left the home when Batavia police arrived, along with an elderly woman who was also inside the home, but Ybarra barricaded himself in the basement, police said.

Police said they closed a portion of North Washington Avenue and ordered nearby residents to stay in their homes Thursday morning as they tried to get Ybarra to leave his home. Kane County deputies used drones, robots and a K-9 unit to find Ybarra, who was arrested without incident, police said.

Police allege Ybarra held the woman against her will in the basement, where he repeatedly hit her. The woman tried to run from the home, but Ybarra caught her in the driveway and took her back inside, prompting the 911 call, police said.

The woman was treated at a local hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
