Batavia Middle, High Schools Eyeing Return To Classrooms
BPS 101 is looking to implement a hybrid model at Batavia High School starting Oct. 19, with Rotolo Middle School set to reopen Nov. 16.

BATAVIA, IL — After starting the 2020-21 school year with online classes due to the coronavirus pandemic, middle and high school students in Batavia Public Schools 101 are set to return to the classroom in the coming months.
District officials recently sent a letter telling parents they are hoping to bring back Batavia High School students starting Oct. 19, according to a report by the Kane County Chronicle. Rotolo Middle School students are due to return Nov. 16.

Both schools will operate on a hybrid schedule, with the district to split students into two groups based on their last names, the report states. Each group would attend school on alternating days.
“Local conditions are not barriers at this time, and we feel the time is right to move forward,” officials said in the letter, according to the report.

The district’s elementary schools reopened Aug. 19, with students split into two alternating groups. Officials said in the letter they were encouraged by the effectiveness of safety protocols at the district’s elementary schools over the past month and “are now confident” in reopening its middle and high schools.
