Activity Grid for the Week of January 6

Dear Families,

Find out what's happening in Bataviafor free with the latest updates from Patch.

It was a wonderful week here at EC. It was wonderful to see all the students back and so excited to be at school. A Reminder Winter Break starts on Monday, December 21st and students do not return until Wednesday, January 6th for our Monday/Wednesday students or Thursday, January 7th for our Tuesday/Thursday students. January 4th and 5th are work and planning days for the staff members.

EC students will also be out on January 14th so that we can preform screenings for children in the community. If you have a child (birth to 5 years of age) and you have a concern about their development, please call the EC Office to start the screening process. Please share this information with your friends and neighbors. This is a completely free screening and open to anyone who resides within the school district boundaries. Additional information can be found later in this newsletter.

In the past, we have been able to provide student with hats or mittens, if they forgot theirs at home, but due to the COVID restrictions, we cannot share items this winter so it is very important that you send your child to school in a heavy coat, snow pants, and boots and with a hat and mittens. If you child does not have the appropriate winter items to safely play outside, they will not be allowed to play outside. If this happens, your child will come home with a note letting you know what was forgotten and that your child missed outside play time. Thank you for your understanding and support.

We know that this past year has been difficult for many families. If you need assistance with supplying your child with appropriate winter wear, please reach out to me or your child’s teacher and we can assist in providing new or gently used items for your child this winter.

Don’t forget that the lottery is open for the 2021-22 school year. If you have a child who will be 3 by September 1st and would like a chance for them to be in the program. See our website for details and a new video about the program. Please share this with your friends and neighbors! We are also continuing to provide free developmental screenings for children ages birth to 5. Please contact Cindy Rodriguez in the ECC Main Office, if you would like to have one completed on your child.

I hope that you have a restful and enjoyable break and that you are able to enjoy the season in whatever way that you choose to celebrate. I am very thankful of all the trust and support that you have given to the EC program this year. We are very luck to have your children in our program. I wish you many blessings over the next couple of weeks and a peaceful New Year.

Take Care,

Paulette Ollie

Batavia Public School EC Program offers free developmental screenings for children birth to 5 years of age. This 2 step process starts with a paper screening that looks at the developmental areas of Communication, Gross and Fine Motor, Problem Solving, Personal-Social and Social Emotional. If there are any areas of concern, an in person screening will be scheduled with a team of District Educators and Specialists for a more in depth assessment of skills in the developmental areas. If you would like to start the process for screening, please contact Cindy Rodriguez at the Early Childhood Center at 630-937-8000. BPS101 has numerous openings for substitute paraprofessionals and teachers. This is a great job opportunity for new college grads, stay at home family members, and even individuals who are still in college who have more than 60 hours can apply for a paraprofessional license. Because these are substitute positions, they offer lots of flexibility so you can work when your child is at school and stay home when they stay home. Pick the days and buildings that work for you and your family. Please visit the HR page on the BPS Website for additional information or to apply. BPS Human Resources Site
