Batavia resident launches YouTube channel

Holmstad residents donate handmade desks to Batavia students, and local businesses make news

A new YouTube channel
Batavia resident Tom Scott recently launched "Older and Active," a channel at YouTube.com, featuring short videos of Scott's visits to state parks and other attractions. Scott's videos showcase the highlights visitors will find at the parks and often include some dazzling footage captured using a drone. If you enjoy drone footage as much as I do, be sure to visit Scott's site and hit the "subscribe" button.

Good news

The Batavia Public Library is scheduled to reopen to the public at noon Jan. 26. That's good news to all of us who enjoy visiting the library and browsing the stacks. The library provides curbside pick-up to patrons, but closed to the public several weeks ago due to Covid-19 restrictions.

County's recycling centers still open

Kane County recycling centers are open throughout the year and accept a variety of items. The centers are located at 517 E. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia, and at the West Dundee Public Works building, 900 Angle Tam, West Dundee. The Batavia center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m Saturdays. Special collection dates are scheduled to resume in April.

In Case You Missed It:

Daily Herald columnist Dave Heun recently offered information about Covid-19's impact on the suburban housing market. The item contains some good details about what is happening with local real estate.

Bocaditos Cafe, 109 E. Wilson St. in downtown Batavia, recently received some well-deserved media attention in the Kane County Chronicle. Bocaditos features Argentine cuisine, including some very good empanadas. If you're not familiar with Bocaditos, be sure to give them a try soon.

The Chronicle also recently reported on a group of residents at the Holmstad in Batavia who made wood desks and donated them to students in Batavia. I don't have much in the way of craft skills, but always enjoy seeing the work of those who do. And it's always nice to see neighborly efforts continue these days.
