BATAVIA, IL — The coronavirus pandemic has forced Batavia public schools to operate with a hybrid or full-time remote learning plan for much of the past year, creating countless challenges for families as they worked to convert their homes into classrooms.

A group of residents at Covenant Living at the Holmstad in Batavia recently put their skills to work to ease that burden for 20 local families by building handmade wooden desks for students.
